Project: Baby! Month 1

I wanted to start with something simple. So, what's easier (for me at least) than a baby beanie? :-)

I'm going to provide the pattern for you in 2 versions - one in simple terms and one in actual pattern form.
I literally stopped after every round and wrote down what I did, so when I say I wrote this pattern as I worked, I really mean that. If you have any issues with it, it is probably because I'm not accustomed to writing patterns or following them, so just ask.

Okay, here’s the pattern in plain and simple terms. (I have a pattern written but for some reason I couldn't get the link to work. Sorry, I'll work on that.)
Disclaimer: This is not a newborn hat. It will probably fit somewhere in the 6-9 month range, every baby is different. You can easily adjust this pattern to fit any size from newborn to adult though.
Here's what you need:
I used a "G" hook. Oh, and you'll need scissors at some point even though they aren't pictured here.

stitches used: double crochet (dc), single crochet (sc), slip stitch (sl st), chain (ch).
In this pattern, chain 2 counts as first double crochet.
If you're unsure about any of these stitches, this is a great link to step by step instructions on basic techniques.

Here we go!!
Round 1: chain 3 and double crochet 11 times into the third chain from the hook. You should have a circle like this with 12  stitches total.

Round 2: chain 2 and double crochet one more time in the same stitch that you chained from. Now do 2 double crochet in every stitch all the way around and join with a slip stitch.
Round 3: chain 2 and double crochet one more time in the same stitch that you chained from. Now double crochet once in the next 2 stitches and twice in the 3rd stitch. Repeat this pattern of increasing every third stitch all the way around and join together with a slip stitch.

Round 4: chain 2 and double crochet one more time in the same stitch that you chained from. Now double crochet once in the next 4 stitches and twice in the 5th stitch. Repeat this pattern increasing every 5th stitch all the way around and join together with a slip stitch.
Round 5: chain 2 and double crochet one more time in the same stitch that you chained from. Now double crochet once in the next 6 stitches and twice in the 7th stitch. Repeat this pattern of increasing every 7th stitch all the way around and join together with a slip stitch.
Round 6: chain 2 and double crochet one more time in the same stitch that you chained from. Now double crochet once in the next 8 stitches and twice in the 9th stitch. Repeat this pattern of increasing every 9th stitch all the way around and join with a slip stitch.

Round 7 - 11: Chain 2 but DO NOT DOUBLE CROCHET IN THE SAME STITCH THIS TIME, now double crochet once in each stitch all the way around and join with a slip stitch.

Round 12 - 15: chain 1 and single crochet in each stitch all the way around and join with a slip stitch.

Cut your yarn, tie it off, and weave in the ends, you’re done!
ALSO, if you want to do a multi colored hat anywhere between rounds 7 and 15 are the best place to add new colors. I chose to do solid gray because I don’t know if this child is a boy or a girl yet. If it’s a girl, I can whip up a cute flower in another color to attach to the hat. :-)
